What We Do

The South Wedge Planning Committee is a 501(c)3 community development corporation and NY Neighborhood Preservation Program committed to building community for everyone in the South Wedge neighborhood.

Our Mission

SWPC builds community in the South Wedge, encourages a full range of housing opportunities, and promotes a diverse, historically significant, commercially sustainable urban village.

Our service area is a small, roughly triangular

section of the southeast quadrant, bordered by the

Genesee River to the west, I-490 to the east, and Linden Street, South Avenue and Gregory Street to the south.

Initiatives at a Glance

  • Small Business Assistance

    In partnership with the Small Business Development Center/SUNY Geneseo, SWPC provides assistance to small businesses with start-ups, business plans, tax questions, employee issues, and other concerns at no charge to the participants.

  • Community Building

    SWPC supports neighborhood block groups, local associations, and volunteer groups to promote engagement and improve our community. Our Board of Directors and the Community Engagement Committee monitor and address neighborhood concerns and quality of life issues.

  • Housing Preservation

    We partner with the City of Rochester’s HOME Program, the Greater Rochester Housing Partnership, and focused investment programs to rehabilitate vacant houses and sell them to qualified first-time home buyers.

  • Community Gardens

    Supported by SWPC and run by volunteers, our community garden sites provide free garden plots to 55 South Wedge households and have a waiting list each year.

  • Wellness Initiatives

    SWPC supports wellness related activities in the neighborhood. Walking based activities like The South Wedge Steps and The Wedge Waddle promote healthy individuals and a healthy neighborhood.

  • Workshops

    Free workshops are offered in the neighborhood that support SWPC’s mission and include varied topics like local history, gardening, energy efficiency, and first time home buying. If you are interested in hosting a workshop, get in touch!

  • Resource Library

    SWPC is open to receive donations and act as a resource library for other organization serving populations in-need.
